Meet Michaela

My name is Michaela a.k.a. The Burnout Boss. My journey into starting Burnout Boss began after spending over a decade in leadership roles spanning retail, real estate, and finance, where I experienced firsthand the toll of burnout. At first, I thought I was just tired. Who wouldn't be after a year that involved divorce, a massive career change that required me to learn an entirely new industry PLUS a side hustle? But it was much more than just exhaustion. I’d been through bouts of burnout before and thought I had “handled” it, "pushed through" and overcame my burnout when in reality, I just kept adapting to more and more stress. Adapting is a super power we have humans, but it's not healthy continuously adapting to more and more stressful environments. When we do this without strong resilience skills we make ourselves sick, emotionally, physically and mentally. For me, this meant I was constantly in bed either recovering from or preparing for a long day/week ahead, my chronic pain condition was constantly flaring up, my vacations were actually stress filled weeks anticipating having to go back to a life that I was really starting to hate.
Once again, I decided something had to change. But I had been here before, burnt out and thinking it was my job that was the problem. After this many times could I still blame the job? Was I the problem? Maybe I'm just can't handle work? While it does partly seem like a dream to have a doctor say you're too stressed and prescribe you a life without a career, I was way too creative and ambitious to just give up.
Spoiler alert, it wasn't just the job. While yes, organizations could do a much better job of helping prevent burnout in their teams (something I aim to help them with), the majority of the issue was me. It was how I handled stress, my resilience level, my mindset, my work/life structure and my limiting beliefs. It wasn't all my fault, but it was my responsibility to address and fix, just like it is yours.
So if it wasn’t just the job but also me, what needed to change? When looking back on my work-life I notice a troubling pattern of burnout, exhaustion, anxiety, isolation, lack of motivation and intense physical pain that chipped away at my daily happiness and sense of self. This realization became a pivotal moment, propelling me to embark on a journey of healing and significant change in my life. I encourage you to do the same self-reflection, take note of any troubling patterns you see and take action if you don't love the life you're living. You absolutely deserve to love your life!
My change started by dedicating myself to learning everything I could about burnout, its prevention, and recovery so that I could help not only myself but other individuals and organizations. I've done and continue to do countless research into the topic through books, seminars, scientific journals, courses & trainings etc. because we're constantly discovering more about the topic as our society recognizes the seriousness of burnout and the damage it causes. I learned that burnout spans much further than just our work-life. When we're experiencing burnout, it creates a domino effect of misery & dysfunction through multiple layers of our life. We often think of it as affecting us just emotionally and physically, but it also heavily impacts our sacred (spiritual), relationship & social layers. Burnout can truly turn your world upside down, making it feel ruined and impossible to fix. Once I started on my road to recovery & research I realized that my background in corporate and entrepreneurship gave me the perfect opportunity to turn what I learned, and what had now became a passion of mine, into a business that would help so many people get out of this life ruining rut, that is burnout. Building upon on my years of leadership, mentorship, and coaching, I began taking intensive courses to master multiple mindfulness modalities such as Neuro-linguistic Programming, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Hypnosis, and more. This included an extensive ICF (International Coaching Federation) Level II Accredited Quantum Coaching course. This combined with comprehensive research, mentoring with experts, work with my own coaches, plus a lot of trial and error, led me to creating Burnout Boss & developing The Burnout Boss Signature Process for burnout recovery.

For the individual, I offer one-on-one life and career coaching with a specialty in burnout recovery and prevention for Leaders, Entrepreneurs and Soloprenuers. I take my clients through the Burnout Boss Signature Process creating incredible results together through a powerful combination of resilience, mindset and change catalyst coaching. I knew early on that while I love coaching one-on-one , it was also incredibly important to me to create change in the corporate world so that less people experience burnout in the first place. I work closely with companies delivering talks and workshops aimed at helping their leaders recognize and address burnout signs within themselves and their teams. I also offer one-on-one burnout coaching for their leaders as the ultimate support.
